Community Works welcomes donations of food and toiletries to help support local people and families who are in financial hardship. Right now we are short of noodles, tinned fruit, crisps, coffee, biscuits and toiletries. Cash donations are especially useful and very welcome.m

Over the first three months of lockdown, Community Works has helped almost 1200 people ( a mix of individuals, couples and Families). Approximately two thirds were existing members and one third are new to the organisation. The support has been both emotional and practical. The practical support has included collecting and delivering 522 lots of shopping, 478 prescriptions and library books. We’ve also been sending out activity packs weekly to families. On average we have given out 19 food parcels for 37 people a week.

Sadly, many people have needed our support due to relationship breakdowns and we have done our very best to help them secure appropriate accommodation and household items. Our staff have provided guidance over the phone as we are not able to see people in person. We also have a team of volunteers who are making regular calls to people who are socially isolated.

A number of organisations collect money to assist with the work of Community Works. Practice, to date, has generally been for the organisation to count the contributions and send a cheque for the amount to The Clock.

Recent changes to gift aid regulations within HMRC means that organisations can reclaim tax on cash donations, but in order to do so Community Works needs to receive the donations in cash rather than by cheque.

Accordingly, wherever possible, when you make such collections could you let Community Works have the cash as the reclaimed tax will increase the sum by 25%.

Virgin Money Giving is a fundraising website that makes it easy to set up your own fundraising page and helps us receive more of the money you raise.

Not-for-profit = more for charity

Virgin Money Giving is 100% not-for-profit and they pass Gift Aid on to us in full.  Which means that more of your donations come to us to help the work we do with young people, adults and families in the community.  Since their launch, they have helped charities raise over £300million - and because they're not-for-profit, an extra £10million reached charities like us compared to using other sites.

Loads of ideas to help you fundraise

You'll find lots of really helpful tools and tips on the website to support you.  The 'Raise more' section is full or fundraising ideas and practical tools and templates to save you time.

Set up your page in five minutes, it's easy - go to virginmoneygiving.com, click 'create your page', enter details of your fundraising activity and select us as your charity.  You can then personalise your page with your story and photos.  There is a helpdesk team on hand if you need any help.
