Community Works
is a new organisation; an exciting result of a merger between The Clock and Thirsk Community Care. The two charities have combined their staff, resources and services as part of their long term plan to become self-sustaining. The newly formed Board of Trustees see it as a time for ambition and are working towards Community Works being the leading voluntary organisation in the area. Community Works will be the first point of contact for children, young people and adults who need to access a service. It will also be an organisation with expertise for other voluntary organisations and a delivery partner for statutory organisations.
The responsibility
of the Board of Trustees is to direct and control the entire organisation through the process of governance. It plans the future mission and priorities, monitors the present performance and measures results. The main focus of the Board is on strategic planning. The primary role of a Trustee is to participate in the process of governance. They are expected to study information and decision-making materials, participate in discussion and debate and share in the decision-making process of voting.
The Board meets bi-monthly. Trustees are also expected to be actively involved in one of four sub-groups.
The role
We are looking for a Trustee to be responsible for either Business Development or HR. If we find two people we will co-opt one as a Trustee and one as a member of a sub-group.
Business Development
As with most charities in the current financial climate, income generation poses a challenge to Community Works. Whilst the organisation is in a relatively strong position financially, our ambitious plans for growth and development has required us to review our business model. We want to develop new avenues of funding through our enterprises and selling some of other services. We would like a Trustee who will help us grow the business of the organisation.
Human Resources
We are looking for someone with up to date HR/employment law experience. Community works is committed to being an excellent employer. We would like a Trustee who will lead the Board in ensuring the highest standards of governance in policies and procedures related to staff and volunteer relations, recruitment, retention, reward and recognition. The Trustee will also lead on Trustee development.
